Welcome to the Melbourne Food Hub
We’re excited to be up and running! Our goal is to co-create a resilient and thriving food system that benefits us all, connecting both our local and wider community.
The Melbourne Food Hub is a visionary collective impact project of Sustain: The Australian Food Network and Melbourne Farmers Markets (MFM), supported by the City of Darebin, Melbourne Polytechnic, STREAT and many others. The Hub reflects and celebrates intercultural diversity, where all are welcome and included for generations to come.
The Food Hub has been established at Melbourne Innovation Centre’s Wingrove Street site, directly opposite Alphington Train Station. The site itself has been reimagined from a concreted barren scape only a few weeks ago into the bustling and lively Alphington Farmers Market on Sunday mornings.
The market is the first seed in an extensive roll out plan that will see the hub expand over the coming months. Other planned features of the Food Hub include a commercial kitchen designed to divert food waste and support new food start-up businesses, establish community composting facilities, a farmer’s depot, co-working offices and an abundant urban agricultural project all facilitating learning and rewriting the food system for the wider community.
Melbourne Food Hub respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the Land on which the hub stands, the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to them, their culture and their Elders, past, present and future.
