Greetings and good cheer for 2018!
We hope you are beating the heat today having done your shopping early as we eagerly return to markets and embrace an exciting year ahead. We look forward to sharing it with you.
One of our immediate initiatives is to tackle the challenges of ‘single use’ waste generated by our markets. For years we have been plastic bag free, but we identify the enormous opportunity for us to be exemplary event managers and take on better practise towards excess and surplus produce, food packaging and disposable cutlery/crockery for food vendors.
Last year we started on the dreaded coffee cup, and thanks to partnering with Eureka Coffee and supported by the City of Yarra, we immediately reduced the hundreds of single use cups used at Collingwood Children’s Farm Farmers’ Market to absolutely none on market days! The initiative has enabled us to offer a co-ordination role (as mentioned in Richard Cornish’s Six Things Article) which gives us even more pleasure as the positives are multi-layered already. We’ll be rolling out even more wash up stations at our markets in 2018. In the meantime, remember to BYO coffee cup!
See you at the markets!
