We launch October with the great news of a new partnership with North Carlton Primary School, and a bright future for Carlton Farmers Market. We hope you will get along this Saturday 7 October, and help us make a cracking good start for this fabulous group of stallholders!
Last week I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of a Social Traders bursary to attend the Social Enterprise World Forum in Christchurch, New Zealand. While the forum itself was much more broad than farmers markets, many conversations, presentation and contacts were very relevant to our work supporting local producers. And being in Christchurch, amongst the re-build following the 2012 earthquake, put things in perspective for all.
One of the bonuses was visiting the Saturday morning farmers market, importantly one of the first activities to pop up immediately following the disaster, as the distribution networks and supermarket access were destroyed. A fascinating market setting at the heritage Riccaton House (that’s it above), with a productive meeting with the market manager rounded off a very worthwhile trip ‘across the Ditch’.
Looking forward to seeing you at a farmers’ market this month
